Yadkin County Humane Society
The Yadkin County Humane Society (YCHS) was established in October of 1990. A handful of members reorganized and YCHS began to gain momentum as an active organization in February of 2003.
YCHS is a 100% volunteer-based 501c3 non-profit organization. We do not have a shelter or office space. All animals available for adoption are in foster homes with our members. Since we do not have paid staff or a building, our administrative costs are very low. This means more of the funds raised and donated go to the care of the animals. Our 2009 Officers and Directors are as follows:
President: VACANT
Vice President: VACANT
Treasurer: Carmen Headen
Secretary: Tammy Myers
Board of Directors:
Donna Blair Pat Dixon Lori Hester Jean Hutchens Pam Shugart Diane Taylor Stefanie Taylor
Yadkin County is rural — rabies is more prevalent, and fewer companion animals are vaccinated and altered than in more urban areas. In order to combat these problems, we work diligently to see that low and no cost spay/neuter, and rabies clinics are available, and a smaller subset of our members (two at this time) provide foster care to animals that would otherwise be euthanized until they can be adopted into loving, responsible homes. There is no ”time limit” in foster care; adoptable animals stay with us until they find their forever home.
With the downturn in the economy, we are seeing fewer adoptions and animals are staying in foster care longer. The small number of foster homes, coupled with the fact that finding a permanent home for those currently in foster care takes time, means that all of our foster homes are sometimes full. When this occurs we refer to other rescue groups, or provide a Courtesy Listing to owners who need to re-home their companion animal.
See our 2008 Annual Report (PDF) for more details about YCHS. With your help, through adopting, fostering, and donations, more animals can be saved.
